Bell's Palsy Day 13 Update

Well it's day 13 and I'm still holding to the fact that this will resolve by the end of this week, under 20 days. I don't know why, I've just have had the feeling since I've been diagnosed that it will be gone by the end of this week. Y'all may be like, nah bro you just have a bad case of wishful thinking. But hey guys, I am known for feeling things like this because I'm like semi-psychic... legit. So I stick to my feeling this will be gone by the end of this week.

Now I believe that a little bit more. Why? On Day 11 I felt a really strong "pulling" feeling in my affected cheek. I couldn't see it but I definitely felt it. As if a fish hook had pulled my cheek or something. And that was fucking awesome! Then on Day 12 as I was trying to sleep, I felt more twitching in my cheek and eyelid.

Today as I was talking I felt some pressure in my cheek and went to the bathroom at work to check and if I try hard enough the corner of my mouth pulls upwards a little bit! PROGRESS MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!

So you know, I'm glad I can see some progress. I still can't blink all the way or close my eye. And that headache is STILL there constantly. My face is still sore (and has been for days). I had a severe case of BP, extreme (yes, dare I say, debilitating) pain for days prior to onset and woke up within a few hours to seeing absolutely no movement except for minimal eye blinking, and diminished sensation on the affected side.

It was fun being a pirate, or being able to sneeze with one eye open but I'm so over it and can't wait to BLINK again. I can't wait to TASTE again!!! I can't wait to SMILE! I can't wait to raise my fucking eyebrows when I talk because damn I use my face a lot. I also can't wait to flare my nostrils or twitch my ear. Ugh and as much as I hate brushing my teeth I will be so happy when I can do it properly without getting toothpaste all over myself. No more chapped lips!!! No more drinking straws!!! No more dirty shirts!!!!

And most of all, it will be amazing to be able to play the trumpet and sing again!

I'm optimistic because I feel the end is near...

Bell's Palsy Update

Well, here's day 8.

It's pretty much the same as before, still can't fully blink or close my eye and I've still not mastered how to tape my eye shut. The lid just pops open over night and I wake up and when I remove the tape its all dried and gunky (oh so sexy right?). Last night was really bad I just couldn't get comfortable, I felt there was too much pressure coming down on my eye and I re-taped it maybe 3 times. So much for trying to get some rest.

The biggest thing I've noticed is that my face actually hurts. It feels bruised and very tender. Sometimes when I'm sleeping and switch sides the pressure on my face hurts. It's mostly around my jawline and the eye area, specifically my temple and the centre of my cheek. And of course on the paralyzed side.

Prior to my BP onset, I had this nearly debilitating pain in the back of my head/near the ear/near the base of my skull. And no matter what I did it didn't go away (I now know that this was the nerve being inflamed). It wasn't ear pain, it was more INSIDE my head. So I was slightly revisited by that pain last night. It definitely was not as bad as before, maybe only 30% of the original pain but it was like a ghost coming to visit. I'm not sure what that means... perhaps the virus is not gone yet and it is becoming re-inflamed. OR maybe it's healing!!! (I hope).

Doc visit tomorrow, and that's about it.

Bell's Palsy Update

Hey everyone,

So now I'm onto day 6 with BP. Haven't noticed much change but I've heard that usually people wake up and they're faces are back to normal. I hope my smile isn't as crooked.

It doesn't seem like a big deal, you know, my friends are supportive and my family too. I ended up going to my cousin's engagement party on Saturday night and that's when you can see people's faces kind of contort to figure out what's wrong. I just told everyone that I went to the dentist and couldn't move my mouth. Most people bought it, but a lot of people asked me "is everything good?" or "you doing good?" It's like they wanted to ask "what the fuck happened to your face dude?!" but didn't know how. I can appreciate that.

I will say my ear hurts a lot more now. It's like having an ear infection (that similar type of inner ear pain that doesn't go away with anything) and certain sounds end up being magnified 10x in my right ear (which is the effected side). Like the other day I wanted to get out of my house so I went with my BFF to go get some comfort food from Denny's. Well, I couldn't really eat it first of all which was uber depressing. And second I couldn't entirely taste everything. And thirdly when we went to pay someone dropped a bunch of cutlery in the cutlery area and yeah, it was shockingly LOUD.

I do notice that I'm more tired and I'm coming off the prednisone so I feel weaker but that's about it. I tried doing my nails for the BW day BUT I just couldn't focus on them so alas I must hang up my boots and continue i when I am more able.

Well thanks for reading,

peace n love from Two-Face

#31DC2013 Day Five - Blue Nails

blue, gradient, blue nail polish, stripes, vertical stripes
Well here we go with Day Five - BLUEEEE nails.

The paralysis and pain is still here today so I am just sitting here resting and watching old Bollywood movies. Right now I'm watching Aaina.

Anyways, nails.

I felt really uninspired today as blue isn't really a favourite nail colour of mine. I decided to do this striped gradient. Not a huge fan but eh, you win some you lose some.

Bell's Palsy

I had a cold for almost all of last week. Then I woke up on Sunday and went to work... as I worked I noticed that I had this pain in my neck/behind my ear and in my shoulder. All on the right side. So I popped a few advil and nothing happened. Next day it got a little bit worse but not much. Popped a couple more advil - again no relief. THEN, on Tuesday, I went to my day job and I felt like crying from the pain. It felt so painful in my jaw, behind my ear in the skull and in my neck. So I took a couple extra strength Tylenol this time... and guess what? No relief. So later that day I took an extra strength Advil this time and same thing no relief.

I tossed and turned all night long, with moments of such intense pain I started to tear up. I knew I had to go to the doctor but I've had back spasms before so I took some muscle relaxants. I woke up later and it was a tiny bit better so I decided to sleep some more. When I woke up at 10, I went to take a shower and washed my face. I noticed my eye didn't close all the way but thought that was because I just woke up. When I went to clean my nose piercing I noticed something weird and looked in the mirror.

The right side of my face was a bit droopy and swollen.

So I smiled and blinked.

But... the right side didn't move.

Immediately I got dressed, ran downstairs and told my sister we have to go to the ER because I think I'm either having a bad reaction to the muscle relaxants or it's a stroke.

After 7 blood pressure readings, a blood sugar reading, blood test (after three attempts to draw blood), urine test, an ECG and a CT scan... they determined I must have Bell's Palsy.

The right side of my face is slightly paralyzed. I can't close my eye either so it's so dry all the time and I've been putting in drops. I get to wear a patch to sleep too... but I'm in a lot of pain so who knows if I sleep. I also can't taste much on my right side of the tongue and have to eat smaller things and softer things.

Looks like I might stop the 31DC2013 for now... but we'll see.

Hope my face gets better, I can't stand looking at myself when I laugh or smile: I look scary!

peace n love y'all

#31DC2013 Day Four - Green Nails

Day Four - Green Nails... hmmmmm I've just recently been getting into green because I finally found some beautiful nail polishes. And one of them is my all time favourites, Green With Envy by Orly. It's so gorg (I will do a review with dSLR pics later)

Here is something I've been dying to try out so I decided to do it today on green nails... I hope you like haha but don't judge too harshly its my first attempt ever at freehand nail art like this (not just a single line here and there)!

I really am proud of them :)

#31DC2013 Day Three - Yellow Nails

Day Three - Yellow...

Also known as my most dreaded day in the challenge... considering I don't like yellow and only own two yellow nail polishes. Yes, that's it, just two... so I was at a loss as to what to do. But it's a challenge for a reason. So I came up with this idea... a really mild and subtle gradient.

What did you guys think? Can you even tell it's a gradient?

I just read the best news ever here... like, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

I just read this on wackylaki's blog!!! God bless her for delivering the news of the day! Check it the official details on Anutka's Blog!!!

peace n love y'all

#31DC2013 Day Two - Orange Nails

So for day two it was orange. Now... I realized I only have TWO orange nailpolishes in my stash! Usually I'd consider this a reason to go shopping but I just don't care for orange nail polishes which is ironic since orange is my favourite colour!

Anyways, I didn't know what to do and was relatively uninspired but I've never done a half moon manicure before so I decided to give it a go... without further ado, here's day two:

#31DC2013 - Day One, Red Nails aka The Devil Wears Prada

Well here we are embarking on this 31 day challenge... kinda scary but here we go!! Can't believe I'm late on the first day though (technically as I'm writing this it isn't midnight yet so it's still September 1!!)

Day one is RED NAILS! :)
With the colours I used, I immediately thought of the title The Devil Wears Prada... nope nothing to do with the movie but I think the nail polish names just work well with that title hahahaha. I really liked the mani... there's something sexy yet sinister about it. Not so good with the tape technique sorry ladies, I know a lot of my racing stripes aren't centered. Oops :$

Natural evening sunlight
I have no idea why my thumb is tucked LOL sorry it looks super awkward...

Guess who's joining the #31DC2013

Well I've always been too scared to join the nail art challenges because compared to some of the masters out there... my stuff looks like shit.

But regardless...

Here I am - COMMITTING to something (shockerrrrr)...

Here's the line up:

Between my two jobs and social life I'm not too sure how far I will get  but I am pretty nervous and excited. Got some ideas already :)

All starts on September 1!

peace n love

OPI My Vampire is Buff - swatches

OPI My Vampire is Buff
-    Light beige with peach undertones, creme
-    Very nice and warm on my skin tone, but very bright

Lezbehonest here, my vampire is Angel. #dreamysigh I think I totally know what series I'm gonna be drooling over once I finish Criminal Minds (ugh can someone just buy me Season 8). Obvi I could not resist when you put the word vampire in a damn nail polish name ugh can we talk about colliding weaknesses!?!? So I saw the bottle sitting on the shelf and thought to myself "that's kinda fugly" and then I grabbed the bottle and turned it around "fuck its vampire colour!" and decided it'd look nice. Hahaha.

So I came home with my haul and tried it out. And it was a hot streaky mess and looked WAY to white against my skin. Like no. Helllllllllllll nahhhhhhhh get dat shit OFFAME.

So I put it away and was thinking who I could gift it to.

Until last night (last night a DJ saved my lifeee). I was going to do another saran wrap mani and got everything ready. Lined up my bottles cut up my saran and even had base coat with me. I tried to fix my broken nail (didn't happen) and decided to slap on MVIB.
One coat - fucking streaky mess.
Two coats - looks like someone took streamers through my nails.
Three coats - hmmm... it's kinda levelling out.

OK I LOVE IT. It's totally not what I thought when I originally put it on. Even in the swatches online I didn't like it. I thought it leaned yellowy beige. But no - I mean, listen, it's beige-y alright, BUT it's got the slightest hint of pink in it. Not shimmer or anything but my lord, just the smallest leaning to pink. And it sealed it for me. This colour is bright on my nails and especially with my darker skin, but its so gorg. It doesn't gray me or wash me out and it doesn't look chalky at all.

It seems like a perfect base for nail art as well. I mean once you have it on and levelled out.

OPI - Lights of Emerald City & My Pointe Exactly!

OPI My Pointe Exactly! (MPE)
-    Sheer grey jelly
-    Cool on lighter skin tones but a little warm on mine, wasn't a cold feeling colour at all
OPI Lights of Emerald City (LoEC)
-    Clear based, large white square glitter with iridescent medium glitter

I’m listening to Sleepwalker by Adam Lambert right now as I write this. Kind of depressing song and I think I kind of felt that about this mani – very melancholy and introverted. I loved it. (Jeez can you tell I’m an English major or what).

I’ll be honest, I’ve been lemming after this polish for a while but never bought it (for some reason). So I caved a while ago and bought and was so excited to have it in my hands. It didn’t disappoint… minus the fact I think I mis-applied it.

The Oz collection… now some people hate it, some like it. I personally really liked the soft shades. It’s still Oz but not as typical as you would think. Way artsy-er. My friend first bought Lights of Emerald City and I was like “when the hell are you gonna use square glitter, looks stoopid” and then I had on all these light femme colours and kept dreaming of putting that on top… so I decided to buy it and omg I am so happy I did.

Models Own Tropical Sun Swatch

Models Own, Tropical Sun, swatch

Models Own in Tropical Sun
- - 4 thin coats
- - pink with coral/gold duochrome & silver microglitter
Essie in snap happy
- - 1 thin coat as base for Tropical Sun
- - bold orange, very "spicy"
OPI Natural Nail Base Coat

When I was going on a nail polish fix I was searching for a nice orange coral with pink and gold shimmer...so I thought that Tropical Sun by models OWN would be it. Ordered it, saw it in the box and died a little of happiness. Waited a while to try it and now I'm finally swatching it! So last night I reached into my tray of polish and looked at the bottle and fell in love again. *this is also where I did that creepy Mr Grinch smile and laugh*

Then I took it downstairs and opened the bottle and as soon as I lifted the big white top off I saw PINK. Now my eyebrows furrowed and needless to say I was fucking confused. I thought the polish was orange? Not pink? But it's kinda pink with a hint or orange... or is it gold? So I was actually upset. You know you're a freak NPA when your emotions change that much because of a slight difference in expected vs real colour.

So whatever, I got pissed and decided to do it anyways for the benefit of the internet world. And there it was, pink with a goldy coral shimmer and flecks of what I assume is silver microglitter. It was ok, I think the only reason I was disappointed was because I wanted one thing but acquired something else. It looks bomb on my skin tone though so that's not a problem. I imagine if you are even darker it would look even more gorg!

China Glaze Platinum Pearl

Yo yo yooo got some tight white nails for you this post...

Lady Diana Manicure
China Glaze in Platinum Pearl
- - 3 coats
- - pearly silvery-white (so basically platinum pearl....)
NYC in Starry Silver Glitter
- - two coats over PP
- - blue and pink hex glitter with small holographic flitter in a clear base
OPI Top Coat

I've got this weird complex regarding dark skin and light nail polishes, which I don't think is very weird and probably many of you have dealt with it. First off I am usually irate at the fact the sheers seem to be only geared towards lighter skinned peeps so that when I put it on, it looks 10 shades too light and loses the sheer/nude/soft effect I was going for. Then you just wasted $9 on a nailpolish that you can't even wear that often and wish you could return and yada yada yada (insert Seinfeld link here)

And in the middle of all that I have always wanted to own white nail polish and rock it on all 5 fingers bare. But I didn't want to wear it because I thought it would look very juvenile and stupid (not chic and bold like I felt) on my dark skin. It'd be such a contrast!! And even worse, I was afraid of being made fun of for "whiteout nails" - you guys remember back in junior high girls would sit in class and use the whiteout on their nails? Not only did it stink and paint on streaky, it just was something certain types of girls did at my particular junior high (hehe). SO needless to say at the ripe old age of 25 I've finally gotten over it and decided I want to rock some fucking white ass nails.

Nubar Midnight Glory

Sometimes, you get a polish and you're not totally invested in the bottle. So you just go with the flow and decide to try it... that's what happened to me when my sister was in town and she told me she wanted a mani. I for one have never had a manicure done EVER and to be honest I feel really weird getting them...especially with my older sister who loves getting them, I guess I don't get the appeal but she convinced me (more like harassed) to try it before I knock it. So, I decided to go.

So I went to the little nail wall with the all the polishes and saw a light blue one with some shimmer in it and in haste (the manicurist was behind me watching me like a hawk yo) I picked it up and handed it to her. I sat down and my sister looked over and commented on my nail polish choice "Why do you always pick ugly colours?" (I never pick ugly colours -___-) and I said "Dude I don't know it looked nice and summery and I don't have anything close to it." (really I just picked the closest thing to me without paying attn... plus it was one of the only colours there besides pink or red)

And with that the lady painted one coat on my hand... and that coat changed my life. I did a double take as my eyes opened wide, my jaw slightly dropped and I said "Holy shit this is a fucking beautiful colour. LOOK!" and shoved my hand over to my sister who kindly responded with "You like the colour of fungus though."

And thereafter, I fell in love. A light blue, sheer, duochrome with gold shimmer at one angle and pink shimmer at another. The most beautiful colour I've seen in a long time, probably the most beautiful colour I've ever seen on my own hands. If you were to ask me what I imagine heaven to look like I would say that an angel gathered the sun rays coming through clouds and put it in a bottle for me so I don't have to imagine any more. So beautiful. It should be renamed Heaven's Glory not Midnight Glory.

Alas, woe is me. For I cannot find this nail polish anywhere that delivers to Canada. I sincerely hope I can get a bottle of this... two even because it's simply gorgeous. I need, want, will kill for (jk I wouldn't actually...), desire, pine for etc. this bottled heaven... #dreamysigh

pictures after the jump....

I took the plunge

Yee you heard right... I took the plunge and shelled out $50 on stamping paraphernalia.

So hopefully I will be able to use these because the previous set I bought I just could not work at all! But this time I bought a Konad stamper so we shall see what happens!

Happy long weekend - post coming as soon as I have time to sit down!

Revlon Top Speed Jaded

Sometimes I see a colour and I become so fixated on it I’ll ask a customer or a random person for the 411. This time I saw it on a coworker at my night job and I HAD TO HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t think I can express it enough but I NEEDED this colour. It was a perfect mint and it reminded me of the ice cream!!! I’m so sick of seeing that weird blue/green colour I wanted a true light mint jade colour. And to top that it’s a great colour for spring/summer…because where I live it’s just winter or summer so I don’t really follow “seasonal” as it snows in late May haha.

So I went full retard and drove after work to London Drugs and found it and shelled out $7 for it (in hindsight wtf was I thinking). I wasn’t happy with it once I got home. Super awesome dry time – fucking LOVED that aspect of it but I was not having it with the dragging and pooling and goopy mess. It was sad. I’d wear it again but maybe I will put a drop of thinner in there to keep it from getting so thick.

Then I was going to take pictures of this but I went to a book sale and didn’t have cash on me so I put my books in a bag and the dude handed me a permie marker in dark blue. So in my attempt to juggle all the books I wanted and put them in a plastic bag and label it after… I swiped the marker on my nail. I was devastated T_T so that’s what the blue line is

Lady Diana manicure
Revlon Top Speed in Jaded
-         - - Mint crème, way more green than it looks in pics
-          - - Applied 4 coats and 5 on some fingers to even it out
OPI in Pirouette My Whistle (middle & ring finger TC)
-          - - Fine silver glitter with medium white hex glitter

China Glaze United & I Herd That

Alright, here's a post I did on my friend's makeup blog a while back, but I'll reiterate it here.

What's on
China Glaze United
China Glaze I Herd That
Revlon Quick Dry Topcoat
OPI Natural Nail Base Coat

i. apply great
ii. no streakiness
iii. glitter spreads out without additional work
iv. subtle

i. if you're a shade or two lighter than me you run the risk of I Herd That blending in with your skin tone
ii. chips easier
iii. they have a gritty texture (which I love) similar to Liquid Sands line from OPI so if you don't like that I'm sure a few thick layers of topcoat can fix it for you

i. great for office because its not bold or overwhelming
ii. classy as fuck so can wear with anything
iii. enough gold/red/pink in the colours that they match well with accessories and clothing :)

I fuckin LOVE these colours because they're subtle yet really glamorous. The glitter they offer is more of a crushed diamonds look rather than here are some huge ass pieces of bling that'll blind you when I walk into a room.

+1 for the fact they are easy to remove!!!! I just used a cotton ball and removed, NO FOIL NEEDED. I kid you not.

Here are some pics yo:

china glaze united
Excuse my dry ass hands plz. This is United.  Looks pinker on the bottle than it did on my hand but its gorgeous on. If you have Pom Pom by CG, it's paler in pink than that (and way easier to remove).

china glaze united
United for a purpose, is from the Breast Cancer Awareness Collection.

china glaze i herd that
This one is I Herd That, part of the On Safari collection from 2012.

china glaze i herd that
I imagine it will be good for layering over another colour...

One of my favourite nail colour combos. Subtle and swanky, fuckin love it.

Yo yo yooooooooooo,

I thought I'd make a mark on the nail circuit here, since I love nail polish. Now upon first impression this shit does not look like a nail polish blog...but it will be! I am an English major so I couldn't help but resist putting a sexy book as my background... and I usually read while my polish dries anyways.

So my main focus is going to be swatches because I suck ass at patterns and drawings and all that.

I am Indian (parentals are from North India) and I find a lot of my Desi friends are saying "I could never pull that colour off" or "which colour will look good on our skin tone?". And I myself find that I search up different swatches of colours and wonder what it would look on darker skin. I am darker than most but still not super dark - more mediumish I guess (or that's my insecure way of trying not to feel too dark, you know how it is in our culture). So hopefully I can get a few swatches in of different brands because lets be honest, though most colours look spectacular on our skin, some of them just either blend in or make you look ashy.

Any requests or questions please please ask!!!! I love talking so ask me anything!

Peace n love bitches
